Pekat Group Bhd, a solar photovoltaic (PV) systems developer, has received national and regional recognition for its renewable energy (RE) project in Pulau Tioman. At the National Energy Awards 2021, Pekat Solar Sdn Bhd’s (PSSB) 144 kWp solar PV system and 274 kWh energy storage system (ESS) for the Barat Tioman Beach Resort in Pulau Tioman was named 2nd runner up in the On Grid – Local Grid category. The project was also named the second runner up in the same category at the ASEAN Energy Awards 2021.
The awards recognised the solar hybrid system’s contribution in assisting the Barat Tioman Beach Resort reduce its reliance on the power grid, lowering diesel generator operating costs, and reducing greenhouse gas emission. The hybrid system has resulted in savings of approximately RM250,000 annually.
