The Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) has commenced passenger services on the first phase of the Cavite Extension of Manila light rail transit (LRT) Line 1. Phase 1 spans 6.5 km and covers five stations. Line 1 is further planned to be extended by around 6 km in Phases 2 and 3. Once the Cavite Extension is fully operational, the daily ridership of Line 1 will increase to 0.8 million passengers.
The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has provided funds for the procurement of 30 trains, the expansion of Baclaran Depot and the construction of one new depot. With the commencement of operations, Line 1 now spans around 27 km.
