Passenger operations are expected to commence on the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) in 2027. China Communications Construction Company Ltd. (CCCC) is the engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning contractor for the project. As of September 2023, 52.9 per cent of construction works have been completed.

The ECRL is a 648 km standard gauge double-track rail system that will transport both passengers and freight across 20 stations connecting Kota Bharu in Kelantan to Port Klang in Selangor. The link is a part of the Government of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
