ACEN Corporation (ACEN) and its partners have announced plans to build a USD1 billion wind farm in southern Laos. The project, also known as Monsoon Wind, will be developed in partnership with ACEN, BCPG Public Company Limited, Impact Electrons Siam Limited, Mitsubishi Corporation, and SMP Consultation and STP&I Public Company Limited.

According to plans, a 600 MW wind power plant and a 500 kV transmission line will be built in the Sekong and Attapeu provinces. Energy generated will be supplied to Vietnam Electricity through the transmission line. This will be the first cross-border wind project in SEA.

The facility is scheduled to go online by the end of 2025.

The project will be co-financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Asia Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA), the Export-Import Bank of Thailand, Hong Kong Mortgage Corporation Limited (HKMC), Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, Kasikornbank, and Siam Commercial Bank.
