PT MRT Jakarta (PT MRTJ) and France-based Alstom, a rolling stock manufacturer, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly assess the development of future mass rapid transit (MRT) network in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Alstom will leverage its expertise in integrating comprehensive urban transport systems, including, rolling stock, signalling, infrastructure, and services to assist PT MRTJ in identifying appropriate transportation technologies and procurement schemes for its expansion project.

The Government of Jakarta plans to expand its urban rail network to 235 km by 2035 in order to reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality in the city.
