Orex SAI and PT Solusi Sinergi Digital Tbk (Surge) have signed a commercial agreement to roll out Open RAN-based 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) services across Indonesia. Orex SAI, a joint venture established by Japanese telcos NTT Docomo and NEC Corporation, will lead the deployment of 1.4 GHz FWA services in partnership with Surge, a major fiber provider operating a 6,900 km network across Java.

The partnership aims to provide affordable, high-speed internet to underserved communities. Surge will offer flat-rate 5G FWA at around IDR100,000 (USD6) per month with speeds up to 100 Mbps, free installation, and no data caps. For the initial 2026 rollout phase, up to 4,800 base stations will be assigned to Orex SAI, covering network equipment and services to build the FWA infrastructure.

The deployment will feature the world’s first commercial Open RAN FWA 1.4GHz system as a primary end-to-end solution, integrating NEC Corporation’s Open RAN and 5G Core (5GC) technologies. The initiative is expected to bridge Indonesia’s digital divide and enhance the country’s broadband ecosystem.
