The Department of Transport’s Public Transport Management Center has announced plans to launch an open-loop fare payment system on buses in the Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) in partnership with Vietnam Thuong Tin Commercial Joint Stock Bank (Vietbank), Vidiva Technology Joint Stock Company, and Mastercard. The EMV system will allow passenger to use cashless methods such as bank cards or e-wallets, in addition to travel cards and cash.
Initially, passengers will be able to use the Mastercard virtual card on Ting e-wallet. In the future, the fare collection system will accept all Mastercard cards. The deployment will be completed on all 200 buses by September 2023.
The deployment will help collect data for a common smart ticketing system for HCMC.
