Onshore exploration activities have resumed in Tutong district. The Block L operator consortium will soon begin a new drilling campaign with two wells – Lukut Updip-1 and Luba-1. The locations of both the new wells were selected after a complete review of the new and old 3D seismic data. PetroleumBRUNEI signed a production sharing agreement for Block L in August 2006 and has since acquired 3D and 2D seismic data, as well as drilled two wells. The first two wells, Lukut-1 and Lempuyang-1, both drilled in 2010, showed non-commercial gas accumulation. However, based on the latest seismic interpretation, the Block L licence area may have huge potential. The planned drilling depth of the first well, Lukut Updip-1, is about 3 km; it will take around 45 days to complete. The drilling rig will then be moved to the location of the Luba well.
