BPC’s smart city payment division O-CITY has partnered with the Land Bank of the Philippines (LANDBANK) for a pilot to modernise the fare payment system of public utility vehicles (PUVs) (including buses and jeepneys) in Manila. O-CITY will offer open loop and closed loop technologies to operators and help them transition to contactless payments solutions. Mastercard and Tangent Solutions are also providing support for this initiative. This is in line with the Philippines’ Department of Transportation’s (DOTr) programme to adopt automated fare collection, thus enabling contactless payment and digital ticketing in Metro Manila.
