The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) of the Philippines has ordered Smart Communications and Globe Telecom to reduce their interconnection charges on calls and text messages. Under the terms of the NTC Memorandum Circular 05-07-2018 dated July 19, 2018, the companies have to lower the interconnection charges from PhP 0.15 to PhP 0.05 per SMS for messaging, and from PhP 2.5 to PhP 0.5 per minute for mobile phone calls.
