The Electricity Regulatory Authority of Vietnam has stated that there will be no hikes in power tariffs during the peak season. Further, there was no shortage in power supply during January–March 2013; the total supply reached 29 billion kWh. However, all the major hydropower plants in the central province of Quang Nam, such as A Vuong and Song Tranh 2, are currently operating below capacity due to a water shortage. To meet the power requirement of the country, Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) needs to mobilise about 1.1 billion kWh of oil-fired power and purchase 2.07 billion kWh from China during the summer season.
