The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) will put up a new 230 kV line from San Esteban, Ilocos Sur, to Laoag, Ilocos Norte, to support the construction of wind projects in the area. The project is expected to cost PHP 456 million. The first stage of the project involves the construction of 500 metres of a 115 kV transmission line; the expansion/reconfiguration of the existing Laoag substation; and the installation of control and protection equipment at the Laoag, Currimao, Bantay, and San Esteban substations. For the second stage, a double-circuit line from San Esteban to Laoag substation, as well as a new Laoag 230 kV substation, will be built.
