Newfield Exploration Company has announced a natural gas discovery within the Block SK 310 production sharing contract area, located 50 miles offshore Sarawak. A drill stem test was recently conducted, which confirmed the commerciality of the reservoir. The new discovery, B-14, is located less than three miles from Newfield’s first reef gas discovery, B-15, also in Block SK 310. The gas initially in place (GIIP) at B-14 ranges from 1.5 to 3 trillion cubic feet. Newfield holds an operational share of 30 per cent in Block SK 310, with the remainder split between Partners Diamond Energy Sarawak (30 per cent), a wholly owned subsidiary of Mitsubishi Corporation, and PETRONAS Carigali (40 per cent).
