The Government of Singapore has set new carbon emission measures and goals for the country. These measures are part of the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment’s (MSE) GreenGov.SG plan. Under this, solar photovoltaics will be installed in all office buildings and infrastructures and MSE expects the public sector to have deployed 1.5 GW of solar energy by 2030. The public sector is also aiming to reduce energy and water consumption by 10 per cent from the previous three years’ averages, as well as trash disposal by 30 per cent from 2022 levels by 2030. Additionally, all public-sector vehicles must be low-emission vehicles after 2023.

By 2025, all new and existing public sector buildings will need to meet the Green Mark Platinum Super Low Energy standard, which is the highest rating in the system that assesses a building’s environmental footprint and performance. The scope of GreenGov.SG will also be broadened to cover public-sector infrastructure and operations, such as public transportation and healthcare institutions.

The Government will assist Singapore-based businesses in making the transition by providing stimulus financing, such as the Energy Efficiency Fund, which was established in April 2021 and the Resource Efficiency Grant for Energy, which will be established in October 2020.
