The Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) has reset the bidding deadline of the PhP 1.72 billion automated fare collection system (AFCS) of light rail transit (LRT) and metro rail transit (MRT). The project had been approved by the National Economic and Development Authority Board in November 2012. DOTC conducted the final round of one-on-one meetings with five prequalified consortiums – Comworks, Inc., SM Consortium, E-Trans Solutions JV, Inc. Consortium, AF Consortium and Megawide Construction Consortium – in September 2013. The project involves the replacement of the existing magnetic ticketing system for fare collection with a smart card-based technology. The winning bidder will operate the system for 10 years.
