Thailand’s telecom sector regulator, the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) is planning to appoint the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) as a consultant for the reauctioning of spectrum in the 1800 MHz band. The ITU will also advise the regulator on the simultaneous auction of other spectrum in the 900 MHz and 1800 MHz bands. NBTC is planning to sell two blocks of 12.5 MHz of spectrum that will be vacated by True Move (owned by True Corporation) and the Digital Phone Company, a subsidiary of Advanced Info Service (AIS), by September 2013. The spectrum in the 900 MHz band is currently being utilised by AIS.
