The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) of Thailand has approved its telecom committee’s plan to auction 25 MHz of spectrum in the 1800 MHz band in September 2014. The committee has stated that the consultation process for conducting the auction will commence in September 2013 while the final information memorandum for the auction will be issued in March 2014. The winners will be announced in October 2014 and the licences will be awarded in November 2014. The spectrum that will be put up for auction is currently utilised by True Move, a subsidiary of True Corporation, and by Digital Phone Company, a subsidiary of Advanced Info Services. However, the two operators will have to surrender 12.5 MHz of spectrum each after their licences expire in September 2013.
