Malaysian Internet Exchange (MyIX), also known as Persatuan Pengendali Internet Malaysia, is planning to invest up to RM 3.7 million to increase the bandwidth capacity of its central nodes interconnection in the Klang Valley from 10 Gbps to 40 Gbps. MyIX has stated that local internet traffic had increased by approximately 50 per cent from 98,527 Mbps in 2012 to 149,889 Mbps recorded in the first half of 2013. The company attributes this growth to social networking and smartphone usage, the digitisation of Malaysian TV, introduction of video on demand, and online gaming.
