Construction works on the thermal power plant in the Thakayta township of the Yangon region, which will supply power to the planned Thilawa special economic zone (SEZ), are expected to take off soon. The thermal power plant project is set to be completed in December 2014. The power plant, with a planned generation capacity of 500 MW, will be built by the Hanza International Company, with the support of 18 companies including Korea-based Western Power Company. The Thilawa SEZ is a joint project of the Myanmar and Japan governments.
