According to reports, the Myanmar government plans to conduct a feasibility study, together with a Thai private firm, seeking to assess the possibility of constructing a deep-sea port in the southern part of the country. Myanmar’s Port Authority of the Ministry of Transport has signed a memorandum of understanding with a Thai firm for a feasibility study for the Kalargote deep-sea port project in the country’s Mon state. The project is a part of an earlier infrastructure development plan. If the feasibility study shows good results, the planned port could be potentially connected with Myanmar’s Three Pagoda Pass route, which is one of its main trading routes with Thailand.
