Myanmar is set to build a new international airport in the central Bago region, which would be nine times larger than the existing Yangon International Airport. South Korean Incheon Airport Consortium (IAC), which is among the seven pre-qualified foreign bidders from Singapore, Japan, France, and South Korea, won the tender for building the Hanthawaddy International Airport. The IAC aims to complete the construction by end-2017 and to start operating the facility by beginning 2018. The Hanthawaddy International Airport, 80 km north of Yangon, covers an area of 3,912 hectares. It will be the fourth and the largest airport of its kind in Myanmar after that of Yangon.
