The Myanmar government has approved a loan worth $51.2 million from the Asian Development Bank to upgrade roads in rural areas. The loan will be used for the Rural Road and Access Project which is being managed by the construction ministry. The project covers 27 bridges, 412 box culverts, causeways and other road infrastructures in the Ayeyarwady and Magway regions. According to Ministry of Planning and Finance, if the loan contract is signed by the end of December 2019, $5.8 million from the loan will be granted as not-repayable financial assistance. The plan involves upgradation of 80 per cent of rural roads across Myanmar to be used in all weather conditions.
