Myanmar is tapping carbon capture and storage, or CCS, technology for use in building a coal-fired power plant in the Dawei Special Economic Zone in southern area of the country. The 600-MW plant is expected to be completed by 2017. The plant had been planned as part of a multibillion-dollar development project initiated by the industrial giant, Italthai Group, but the project was halted in January 2012 due to environmental concerns.
