Myanmar authorities issued a total of 123 licences – 85 local companies and 38 foreign companies – for telecommunication services to local and foreign companies since 2015. Currently, the three existing operators providing services in the country are Norway-based Telenor, Qatar-based Ooredoo and government-owned MPT. The government plans to issue more licences to both local and foreign firms. The telecom sector has received $8.154 billion foreign investments since 1988.
