The Myanmar government has decided to import 1,000 MW of electricity from China’s grid network developer, China Southern Power Grid, to meet the expected electricity shortage over the next two years. According to Myanmar’s Ministry of Electricity and Energy, the electricity is expected to be transmitted from Dhong Dai in Yunnan, China, to Myanmar’s Muse, Mineye and Hopong in the northern Shan state, Loikaw in Kayah state and Phayagyi in the Bago region. In case Myanmar manages to construct more hydropower plants in the future and generate excess electricity, it will sell power back to China.
