The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) and the Ministry of Industry and Handicraft (MIH) plan to implement water supply projects in Kampong Cham and Battambang. Tenders for the same have already been issued. The scope of work includes setting up of a WWTP having a capacity of 10,625 cubic metres per day and 15.4 km of new sewers at Battambang. In addition, capacity expansion of the Sihanoukville WWTP from 6,900 cubic metres per day to 20,500 cubic metres per day will be undertaken and 32.1 km of new sewers will be installed. Further, a septage management system will be set up in Kampong Cham and a new 3.7 km trunk sewer will be constructed in Siem Reap using trenchless technology.

The estimated total cost of the projects is $119.17 million of which $10.54 million will be provided by the Cambodian government, a $5.09 million grant will be provided by the European Union’s Asia Investment Facility, $50 million will be provided by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), a grant of $10 million will be provided by the Japan Fund for the Joint Crediting Mechanism and a $43.54 million loan will be provided by Agence Francaise de Developpement and ADB.
