The Ministry of Transport (MoT) of Vietnam has proposed reforms to its rail system aimed at enhancing transport infrastructure by 2030 and beyond, with a focus on classifying railway lines as national, local, or specialised.
The reforms are intended to allow better management and funding for rail projects based on regional needs. Additionally, the Ministry is reviving plans for a 350 km/hr high-speed rail (HSR) line connecting Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC). Upon approval, the construction will begin by 2030 and be completed by 2040. The project may receive support from countries like South Korea, China, or Japan.
