The Ministry of Transport (MoT) of Malaysia is likely to award an RM 150 million contract to China’s CSR Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co (CSR ZELC) for the maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) of the six-car train sets that belong to Malaysia’s national rail network operator – Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB). CSR ZELC has won a contract worth over RM 500 million to provide 10 units of six-car train sets to KTMB. In 2010, the Chinese company had signed an RM 1.9 billion deal with KTMB to supply 38 sets of custom-built six-car train sets; the complete order was fulfilled by mid-2012. As part of the deal, CSR ZELC was awarded an RM 133 million MRO contract for these six-car train sets for two years, which is due to expire in February 2014.
