Mitsubishi Heavy Industries has handed over the first two of 25 new two-carriage trains for the Sengkang-Punggol LRT to operator SBS Transit, with passenger service set to begin in the third quarter of 2025. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) confirmed the delivery via a video update, showing the trains being lifted onto tracks at the Sengkang depot in December 2024 and coupled for final testing.

The new fleet is being introduced to replace ageing single-carriage trains and accommodate growing ridership in the Sengkang and Punggol areas. Seventeen of the new trains, ordered in 2022, will replace all 25 existing single-carriage trains, while an additional eight trains ordered in 2023 will replace half of the current 16 two-carriage units. Once all deliveries are complete by the end of the decade, the network will operate 33 new two-carriage trains, each with a capacity of 105 passengers.
