The Ministry of Transport has commissioned Cai Mep Thi Vai International Port, the country’s biggest and deepest port, in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau. The 13 trillion dong project is partly funded by JICA. The project includes construction of the Cai Mep container terminal, the Thi Vai general goods terminal, and roads and bridges linked to National Highway 51. Currently, the container port consists of two berths covering 600 metres, which can accommodate 130,000 deadweight tonnage vessels and other facilities with a capacity of 700,000 TEUs per year. Further, the general cargo terminal has two berths that can serve vessels of 50,000 tonne capacity.
