Philippines-based Manila Electric Company (Meralco) and Unilever Thailand have received the Asian Human Capital Award for their outstanding human resource practices at the Singapore Human Capital Summit.

Unilever Thailand has developed a multifunctional project to engage its personnel, which includes initiatives such as those that develop employees’ entrepreneurial skills and reduce resource wastage. Thanks largely to this project, business growth has doubled and attrition rate has halved. In the case of Meralco, it has adopted an approach that places a high priority on practices such as strategic employee communication and employee volunteerism.

The Asian Human Capital Award encourages companies across Asia to focus on human capital development to drive business excellence. The Award has achieved healthy participation levels over the years. In 2013, the organisers received 89 applications from 58 organisations across 11 countries in Asia – the highest number since the inception of the Award five years ago.
