According to reports, PT Medco Power Indonesia (Medco) has allocated $65 million to a 70 MW gas-fuelled power plant in Batam in order to provide electricity to the island for a period of 20 years, starting in 2014. Medco, through its subsidiary, Energi Listrik Batam, signed a purchase agreement with PLN Batam, a subsidiary of state electricity company Perusahaan Listrik Negara, on October 15, 2012. Medco’s investment will cover the purchase of the gas-fuelled power plant ($28 million) and will aid in setting up of the supporting infrastructure. The consortium of PLN Batam and Medco Power will manage the distribution of gas to the plant.
