PT Medco Power Indonesia aims to export up to 600 MW of solar power to Singapore starting in 2028 through its Pulau Bulan solar photovoltaic (PV) project, which is planned to have a 2 GWp capacity. The project, one of the region’s largest cross-border renewable energy initiatives, will use a dedicated subsea link similar to Indonesia’s existing gas pipelines to Singapore.

This initiative has economic benefits, including job creation, support for future industries, foreign exchange generation, and the strengthening of the nation’s green economy. Indonesia’s renewable energy potential is estimated at 3,600 GW, yet only 0.6 per cent is currently utilised, leaving substantial opportunities for domestic and regional supply, particularly to Singapore, which seeks to convert half of its 6 GW electricity capacity to green energy.

Additionally, discussions are underway with prospective buyers and aims to leverage both Indonesia’s growing national demand—projected to rise around 8 per cent annually—and regional markets. The Pulau Bulan project reflects the company’s broader strategy to tap Indonesia’s renewable energy resources and support the country’s green growth trajectory.
