Maxis has signed an agreement with Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) to access the state authority’s 5G network in Malaysia. Maxis is the last incumbent operator to sign up for the state 5G strategy. The company expected to incur around RM360 million in annual operating expense for access to DNB’s wholesale network product.

Implementation of DNB’s network will continue until 80 per cent population coverage has been achieved. Furthermore, there are plans to establish a second network in 2024. Currently, DNB operates Malaysia’s only 5G network, while operators have signed up to use the service.
