The 5 km Marina Coastal Expressway (MCE) project is expected to be completed by December 2013. The project that includes a 420 metre undersea tunnel is estimated to cost S$5.43 billion. As of May 2013, the majority of the electrical and mechanical systems have been installed and contractors have started testing and commissioning them. MCE will connect the Kallang–Paya Lebar Expressway and East Coast Parkway in the east to the Ayer Rajah Expressway in the west, with direct connections to the Marina South and Straits View areas. Singapore LTA, which is implementing the project, has awarded the contract for the tunnel work to Penta-Ocean Construction Company Limited.
