The China Railway Eryuan Engineering Group has signed an agreement with Myanmar Railways to undertake a feasibility study for a 431 km railway linking Mandalay with Muse on the Chinese border. The study, including environmental and social impact assessments, is to be completed within two years. The proposed line designed an operational speed of 160 kmph will reduce transport costs, support socio-economic development and contribute to relations with China. The route was first proposed under an HSR deal signed in 2011, but the Myanmar government suspended the project three years later, citing public objections.
