Malaysia’s largest IPP, Malakoff, a subsidiary of MMC Corporation, has decided to spend $120.61 million to acquire a 50 per cent stake in the Australia-based 420 MW Macarthur wind farm. Malakoff will acquire this stake from New Zealand’s Meridian Energy; subsequently, the Malaysian IPP will become an equal partner of Australia’s AGL Energy Limited in the wind farm. The deal will mark Malakoff’s first foray into Australia’s renewable energy sector. The Macarthur wind farm deploys 140 units of Vestas 3 MW (V112) turbines. It was commissioned in January 2013.
