Gedong has obtained district status in Sarawak, and the local government unit (LGU) is planning the district’s transition into a satellite city. After becoming a district, Gedong is expected to have a comprehensive and efficient infrastructure and administrative structure.

To further attain the status of a satellite city, Gedong’s LGU will undertake Integrated Regional Samarahan Development Agency’s (IRSDA) development approach. The IRSDA is a national agency in Malaysia that spearheads development in districts in the Samarahan area, including Gedong.

The LGU will focus on boosting rural development in the area by undertaking road development and renovation projects as well as developing the agriculture and tourism sector in the Gedong, Simunjan and the surrounding areas. The LGU has also announced an RM5.35 million road improvement project in the Simunjan area, as well as a temporary occupation licence for the Kampung Masjid Gedong Phase II Expansion plan.
