The Energy Commission of Malaysia has shortlisted five consortiums led by 1Malaysia Development Berhad, Formis Resources Berhad, Tenaga Nasional Berhad, Malakoff Corp Berhad, and YTL Power International Berhad to build a 2,000 MW coal-fired power plant. The closing date for the bid is September 30, 2013. The power plant is estimated to cost RM 8 billion–9 billion.
