The federal government (Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change Ministry) has agreed to hand over Sabah Electricity Sendirian Berhad, the electric utility of Sabah, Malaysia, back to the Sabah state government as a measure to optimise the financial and technical position of the utility, and improve the electricity supply system in Sabah, which currently faces various challenges. The ministry will set up two committees – a Special Financial Committee and a Special Technical Committee – to discuss the matter. The committees which would include officials from the federal and state finance ministries.
