Bursa Malaysia Berhad was awarded the first position in the Excellence Award category for overall corporate governance and performance by the Minority Shareholder Watchdog Group (MSWG) at the MSWG-Asean Corporate Governance Awards, 2017 in Kuala Lumpur. Other companies recognised for the same award were Petronas Dagangan Berhad, LPI Capital Berhad, Telekom Malaysia Berhad and Malayan Banking Berhad. The companies have been recognised for demonstrating high standards of corporate governance while maintaining good financial performance.

Further, 13 companies including Bursa Malaysia Berhad, Axiata Group Berhad, Telekom Malaysia Berhad, Petronas Dagangan Berhad, Malayan Banking Berhad, Petronas Gas Berhad and Astro Malaysia Holding Berhad were awarded the “Excellence Award” in the corporate governance disclosure category. Astro has been recognised for showing high commitment in improving corporate governance practices in the international set-up.

The MSWG-ASEAN Corporate Governance Recognition Awards is held every year to encourage best corporate governance practices, quality and transparency among public listed companies in Malaysia. The award identified the top 100 public listed companies in Malaysia based on disclosures from around 900 companies. The companies were assessed using a scorecard methodology using the Organisation of Economic Cooperation and Development’s principles of corporate governance as the benchmark.

The winners met the criterion of achieving a return on equity of not less than 3 per cent during the last three years (2014-17).
