The Ministry of Environment and Water of Malaysia has announced that an investment of RM280 billion is required to upgrade water infrastructure and make water supply sustainable in the country.
Old pipelines in Malaysia needs to be replaced as they have a lifespan of up to 45 years. There are pipes in the country that are 30 years old and need to be replaced or repaired and this requires an investment of over RM40 billion.
Meanwhile, the Ministry is currently installing new pipes in Kelantan. About half of the over 8,000 km of water pipes in Kelantan are old and need to be replaced to avoid the risk of the pipes leaking.
