Malaysia Airlines Bhd has announced plans to operate its first passenger flight using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. The airlines operator will use its Boeing 737-800 craft for the maiden flight, which will use a mix of around 38 per cent SAF and conventional jet fuel.

The sustainable fuel option, which will be generated from 100 per cent renewable waste and residual raw materials (such as cooking oil), can lower greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80 per cent when compared to traditional fossil jet fuel.

The flight is in line with Malaysia Airlines’ goal towards achieving a cleaner and more sustainable fuel option on regular flights by 2025.
