Malakoff Corporation Bhd has secured a contract from the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) to construct a waste-to-energy (WtE) plant in Melaka, Malaysia. The tender for the project was initially launched in February 2021.

The WtE project is expected to cost around RM280 million and is slated to be the second such facility in Malaysia after the Ladang Tanah Merah plant in Negeri Sembilan. Details regarding the plant’s capacity have not yet been released but it is expected to have a similar scale as the 25 MW Ladang Tanah Merah plant.

This move will support Malakoff’s effort to develop its renewable energy (RE) portfolio while reducing its dependence on fossil fuel-fired power plants.
