The Land Transport Authority (LTA) is inviting bids to appoint a contractor to refurbish 630 public buses in Singapore. All the vehicles are diesel operated and have an average age of around 10 years. All the buses will be upgraded by 2025.

Once the midlife refurbishment is completed, the buses will remain in service till they reach the end of their lifespan. Public buses in Singapore have a lifespan of 17 years, after which they are decommissioned.

This is the first such large-scale refurbishment programme since the LTA transitioned to a contracting model in 2016, under which the agency owns all the public bus infrastructure. Prior to this, operators were responsible for undertaking their own refurbishment.
