The Land Transport Authority (LTA) honoured the best in Singapore’s land transport industry at the fourth biennial Land Transport Excellence Awards (LTEA). The awards received 86 entries from both corporations and individuals across various segments of the land transport industry. Around 27 individuals and organisations were honoured at the awards ceremony across 16 categories.

This year, the “Transport Thought Leader Award” was presented to Gerard Ee, Chairman of the Public Transport Council (PTC), for his leadership in enhancing Singapore’s land transport development. Under his leadership, PTC has established a robust framework to regulate bus and train fares, as well as keep fares affordable for commuters. He played an active role in the revamping of the public transport fare structure to a distance-based system, so that commuters no longer incur additional costs for making transfers.

  • “Service-Excellence Individual(s)” – W. Goh C.G. (Bus Captain, SBS Transit Limited); E. Lim P.S. (Bus Captain, SBS Transit Limited); D. Suppiramaniam A/L M. Duraisamy (Bus Captain, SMRT Corporation Limited); Lim P.E. (Taxi Driver, SMRT Corporation Limited); M. Beegum (Customer Service Officer, SMRT Corporation Limited); and Chua M.H. The awards ceremony this year also saw the introduction of a new award category to recognise organisations that have embraced initiatives to help their employees shift away from peak-period travel and encourage more sustainable transport modes. The inaugural “Best Green Transport Partner Award” was presented to BP Singapore, IBM Singapore, and the Urban Redevelopment Authority for their commitment towards encouraging green and sustainable transport.

The biannual LTEA was inaugurated in 2008 by the LTA to recognise industry partners and individuals that have made significant contributions to Singapore’s land transport. Award recipients represent the best in their respective fields of expertise and help set new benchmarks for the industry.
