The launch of the China– Myanmar pipeline from the Shwe gas field in offshore Myanmar to southwest China will be delayed by several months. The pipeline construction, implemented by the China National Petroleum Corporation, has been postponed due to pending works at a part of the pipeline that runs between the town of Ruili and the provincial capital, Kunming. The section has suffered delays because the pipeline passes through challenging mountainous terrain, hence requiring a longer route and the acquisition of more land rights. Meanwhile, a parallel Myanmar–China oil pipeline is due to be completed in September 2013.
