The Lao government has plans to build a new expressway, stretching 113.9 km, linking Luang Prabang province, 230 km north of capital Vientiane, with Oudomxay province. Luang Prabang authorities have discussed a feasibility study for the project. The construction will start from Luang Prabang district, linking Nga, Nakok and Xay districts, with a total of area of 1,055 hectares. The estimated cost of the project is $2.88 billion. A 29.8 km section will run through Luang Prabang with the remaining 84.1 km running through Oudomxay province. The expressway will include 96 bridges, five exit points and eight tunnels.
