Lao PDR has signed a concession agreement withVietnamto construct a high speed rail network at a cost of 31.4 trillion kip. Malaysia-based Giant Consolidated Limited will be carrying out the construction of a 220 km track between Savannakhet and Lao Bao. The project is part of a planned rail link in Southeast Asia, which will provide connectivity toSingaporethroughThailandandMalaysiaintoKunmingprovince inChina.
