Public Works and Transport of Lao PDR has started survey work for the expansion of the north and south sections of Road 13 on a public–private partnership (PPP) basis. It is part of the Major Roadway Improvement Project. Road 13 North will be expanded by 142 km from the Sikeut junction in Vientiane to the bus station in Vangvieng district of Vientiane province. Of the total length, the 57 km stretch from the Sikeut junction to Phonghong district in Vientiane province will be converted to four lanes, while the remaining length will have two lanes. As for Road 13 South that consists of a total length of 141 km, the stretch of 48 km, from the Dongdok intersection in Vientiane to the Phao village section, will consist of four lanes. The remaining 93 km, extending from Phao village to Sivilay village in Borikhamxay province in Pakson district, will have two lanes. The toll is expected to be in the range of 500 to 6,000 kip per trip.
